We have just had a letter from Fred.Olsen Cruise Lines.
"Fred Olsen Cruise Lines regret to inform you we have taken the difficult decision to cancel the forth coming mini-cruise, departing Southampton, Saturday 20 June."
The letter tells us that there has been a high incidence of a gastro- type illness called Norovirus in the UK and some passengers have brought it on on board the ship. Apparently "frequent hand washing with soap and water is the simplest and best defence".
There has been an outbreak of the virus on the current cruise so they say that they "believe the best course of action is to cancel this weekend's 3 night mini cruise ....giving us a clear fire -break.to provide the greatest opportunity for the virus to be removed from any surfaces".
The letter offers some cut price cruises on selected dates, a full refund and voucher towards a cruise booked this year. Fair enough, but we were going to the Battle of Waterloo 200 years on and now can't go!
